My initial experience in yoga was when I was 18 years and quite accidently attended a class in a Fitness centre in Middlesex. At the time I wasn’t ready for yoga so I got off the mat and walked out.
However, whilst I was on holiday in Sunny Sri Lanka in my late 30ies I once again stumbled across yoga. This time it was being taught by an English gentleman married to a lovely Sri Lankan lady, with an established yoga studio. At the time I was suffering from inflammation of joints, spondylosis on my neck – affecting half of the right side of my body, and sleepless nights due to pain. Due to car accidents I had been left with a weak lower back and two bulging discs on either side of my spine.
I started doing yoga on and off for few years taking it slowly as my joints were stiff and sore. I started to see some results so I officially took the plunge in 2005 to practise on a regular basis. Taking up yoga was a big challenge but with perseverance and regular practise I have managed to achieve the quality of life I wanted. I no longer suffer with some of the ailments I had in the past and since practising yoga I never fail to sleep like a baby – pain free. My teacher encouraged me to take up my Yoga Teacher Training Course so, I can help others.
I am now in my late 50’s and I feel strong, healthy and flexible thanks to yoga which has also given me a sense of peacefulness.

Clare graduated with a ‘Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga’ from ‘The Yoga Professionals’ and ‘YMCAfit’ in April 2017. She has been practicing Yoga for many years and now enjoys sharing the ‘Yoga Magic’ with others. She used Yoga to help keep herself in peak physical health during her time as a professional dancer and then also used Yoga to help re-build herself through a period of ill health.
Clare expresses that Yoga is not simply about the physical poses, being flexible and looking good; it is much more than that. It is learning to unwind, re-balance, connect mind and body, breathing techniques and sometimes just simply taking a break from the fast pace of modern day life. Clare has a great passion for teaching yoga and loves guiding people on their Yoga journey whether that is with the complete beginner or long-term Yogi.
Clare specialises in teaching mixed ability Hatha Yoga classes. Yoga helps Clare to be like the lotus flower, ‘At ease in muddy water’. She looks forward to seeing you on the mat. Namaste. Om Shanti.
When I first started yoga something just felt, ‘right’ and I found myself wanting to discover more and more about the different aspects of this ancient art. After years of practice and attending local courses it eventually led me to do my training in India. After coming back briefly and still wanting more knowledge I went back out again just weeks later. Although my learning didn’t stop there. Each day on and off the mat the journey continues.
My love for yoga is because you get to fully experience the moment just as it is. Every single time I step on to my mat it is a different experience and the moment teaches me something new.
My teaching style continues to change as I grow both as a student and as a teacher. My classes are light-hearted but challenging. You will have time to breathe, feel and savour each and every sensation. The practice will leave you feeling more open in your body and mind. I always finish the class with a grateful heart 😊
I finished my Dru Yoga Teacher Training in November 2018, after an intense 2 years of study. My journey to becoming a yoga and mindfulness teacher is an interesting one; first, came mindful meditation which I have practiced for 18 years.
Then I studied Cheng Man-Ch’ing 37 short form tai chi with Craig Swinnerton for 14 years. For the last 4 years I have practiced yoga to help deal with the physical demands of my gardening business. I soon found that practicing Dru Yoga also helped me emotionally and spiritually. I also realised that Dru yoga brought together within one system, the focus and awareness of mindful meditation, the physical grace and movement of tai chi, with all of the benefits of yoga practice. I am enthusiastic about teaching Dru Yoga, so that others can sample its benefits and be empowered by them.
I’ve been studying Tai Chi Chuan for over 25 years, my main teachers are Tony Hendrys and John Bethel. The style of Tai Chi I do emphasises martial movements performed fluidly, weapons forms include Staff, Walking Stick, Sword (Jian and Dao), Fan. Also the use of bare handed techniques such as push hands and Da Lui is encouraged.
In my day job I started off as a scientist, working mainly in Forensic and analysis labs. I then became a secondary school teacher in 1999 and have taught science for many years.
I was drawn to Tai Chi as the masters have great abilities that they put down to chi movement and as a rational scientist I wanted to be able to explain this holistic art. I’m still struggling to explain why some areas work for health, but they do.
